Can a marketing agency guarantee results?
An agency cannot honestly guarantee a specific number of leads, sales or revenue, because outcomes depend on factors it does not control: your pricing, competition, seasonality, sales follow-up and the market itself. What an agency can guarantee is the work it will perform, the timeline and how results will be reported.
Guarantees of first-page rankings are a particular warning sign. Google itself advises caution with anyone who guarantees rankings.
What should a marketing agency guarantee?
A useful guarantee covers deliverables and accountability: the campaigns that will be built and launched as scoped, tracking that has been tested end to end, response times, reporting frequency, and honest reporting against the forecast, including when results are behind.
That is the structure of our own service guarantee: we guarantee the work, and we tell you plainly why nobody can honestly guarantee the result.
How do you read the fine print on a results guarantee?
- What counts as a lead? A form fill, a call over 30 seconds, or a qualified opportunity?
- What are the conditions? Minimum budget, minimum term, required landing page changes?
- What is the remedy? A refund, free months of management, or nothing more than continued work?
- Who verifies results? The agency’s own reporting, or data you can see?
What is better than a guarantee?
A written forecast before you spend, reporting against that forecast every month, and the freedom to leave with your accounts and data. Together they give you the accountability a guarantee promises, without the fine print.
Some agencies, including ours, also offer a trial period so you can see the work before committing. Our free 30-day Sprint sets a win condition in writing before launch. Read more about how forecasting works.
