How much should you spend on Google Ads?
Start from the number of leads you need, not a round budget. Enter your goal, your expected cost per click and your landing page conversion rate, and this calculator works backward to the monthly and daily budget.
Google Ads budget
Estimates only. Results depend on your market, offer and tracking.
How do you calculate a Google Ads budget?
To calculate a Google Ads budget, divide the number of leads you need by your landing page conversion rate to get the clicks required, then multiply by your average cost per click. Divide the monthly figure by about 30.4 for a daily budget.
For example, 40 leads at a 6% conversion rate needs about 667 clicks. At $3.50 per click that is roughly $2,333 per month, or about $77 per day.
Real costs rise as you scale, because the cheapest, highest-intent searches are used up first. Treat this as a starting estimate, then use your own account data to refine it.
The budget formula.
Work backward from the outcome you need. Your conversion rate and click cost decide the rest.
Google Ads budgets, answered plainly.
How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
A small business should spend enough to reach its lead goal at a profitable cost per lead. Work out how many leads you need, multiply by the expected cost per lead, and check that each customer is worth more than it costs to acquire. That number is your budget, not a fixed percentage of revenue.
What is the minimum budget for Google Ads?
Google has no strict minimum. In practice, the budget should buy enough clicks each day to produce regular conversions, otherwise smart bidding has too little data to learn from.
How do I find my cost per click?
Use Google Keyword Planner for estimates, or your own account history for actual costs. Costs vary by industry, location and competition.
Can Google spend more than my daily budget?
Yes. Google can spend up to twice your average daily budget on a given day, but it will not exceed your average daily budget multiplied by about 30.4 over a month.
Should I raise my budget if campaigns are working?
Increase gradually and watch cost per lead. As budget grows, Google reaches less ready-to-buy searches, so cost per lead usually rises. Our guide to Google Ads budgets explains how to scale.
